Crans, Mary Ann (Napier), was born June 27, 1917 in Newton, Kansas to Jesse L. and Flora Congdon Napier and passed away on May 12, 2017 in Wichita, KS at age 99. Two siblings were Melba Napier, born in 1902 and John Mack Napier, born in 1905. Mary Ann attended Newton High School, graduating in 1934, and attended Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri, graduating with an associate in Fine Arts. She then attended Washburn University in Topeka, KS, with further course work at Bethel College in North Newton, KS and Wichita State University in Wichita, KS. During her college years, she was active in Kappa Alpha Theta, fraternity for women, and Sigma Alpha lota, music sorority. In 1940 she was married to Edward Richmond Crans, son Ralph and Jessie Crans of Lenora, KS. They had two sons, Stephen Napier Crans and David Edward Crans. Her husband passed away on March 6, 2000. She is survived by her two sons, two beloved daughters-in-law, Tsegie Shewareged Crans and Ann Christine Proudfit Crans and four grandchildren, Helen Shewareged Crans, Robert Napier Zeweda Crans, Jeremiah Edward Crans and Dr. Christiaan David Crans. One granddaughter, Heather Rachel Crans died in infancy. Mary Ann has been an active member of P.E.O. Sisterhood since 1936, currently in chapter GE in Wichita. She is also a member of Fairmount Library Club and Fairmount United Church of Christ (Congregational) in Wichita. Mary Ann has always been interested in reading, reviewing and lending books. She has been a piano teacher for over 70 years.
